Chapter 4: Emergency Preparation

Assisting Other Boaters

Assisting other boaters in need is not only the right thing to do, but it is also one's responsibility as a part of the larger boating community. If another boater sets off a distress signal or one witnesses an accident, it is one's responsibility to provide assistance to the best of one's ability, while preserving the safety of everyone involved.

If one is unable to safely aid fellow boaters, one should inform another able boater as quickly as possible so assistance can be provided. Most importantly, notify the proper authorities after the endangered boater's safety is assured.

The same rule applies if one is involved in an accident or collision with another boat. Ensure one another's safety and provide assistance, if needed. Then exchange information.
