Maintaining a Lookout

While watching out for potential hazards, on the water, there will be plenty of distractions. One must keep focused and monitor their surroundings.

Ensure that no passengers or equipment are not blocking one's line of sight, ensuring no potential hazard is blocked from view. Keep scanning the area around the boat, including the bow, port, and starboard sides for any other boaters, debris, obstacles, or swimmers.

Maintaining a Lookout

Finally, make an effort to use all tools at one's disposable to avoid collisions. The radio and radar can be valuable tools for staying safe. An operator is legally required to do everything they can to avoid a collision. Negligence is no excuse.
