Reporting Boating Accidents

If one is involved in a boating accident, an accident report needs to be filed with local law enforcement. This is a Federal Law and the consequences of failing to adhere to it could involve fines or jail time.

If involved in an accident, one is legally required to:

  • Stop and identify one's self and boat.
  • If possible, provide assistance to fellow boater(s).
  • Write down any important information such as the date, time, and conditions.
  • File an accident report with local law enforcement.
