Chapter 6: Navigation Aids

Diving Markers

These markers indicate that divers are in the area and one must be cautious to maintain everyone's safety. These markers come in two different types:

Red and white flag: These flags are carried on top of a floating buoy and show one where the diving is in progress.

Blue and white flag: These flags are displayed on vessels and indicate that the vessel is currently engaged in diving activities.

Diving Markers

Stay at least a hundred feet from any dive flags. A hundred feet is the minimum distance needed to steer clear, in most states, but always check the state regulations to verify the specific rules for each state.

Keep in mind that other boaters will be avoiding and following these boundaries and restrictions of marked areas. So, one must be cautious when in the area and give fellow boaters plenty of room to navigate.
