Chapter 3: Launching and Operation

Float Plans

Before heading out, on the water, the bare minimum one should do is let a family member or friend know where and when one is planning a boating trip and the estimated time of return.

But to ensure safety one can also file a "Float Plan." This gives more detailed information to friends and family about the specifics of where one is heading and when one is expected to return. Taking these steps may ensure a prompter rescue if something occurs out on the water, as family members or friends can notify the proper authorities if one does not return within the designated time. It is also a good idea to leave a copy of the float plan with the local marina, if possible.

Float Plans

Always let someone know where and when you're going boating before you head out, on the water.
